{ hat of the week } Harbinger

Well Hello there!  How are you?  Is it spring where you are yet?  The temps are still low in Chicago, but it's sunny & clear, so I've been pretending and invariably leave the apt. terribly underdressed.  Some day I hope the weather catches up with my fashion.

  Time for another Hat of the Week!!

This week's style is another new one for Spring : the Harbinger.
My idea for this hat was to combine a large brimmed sun hat with a sophisticated cloche, perfect for relaxing on the beach and then strolling through town.  More structured than floppy, the intricate seaming provides the ideal framework.

I've made it in 4 colors/fabrics, each with their own distinct feel.

In indigo cotton denim with orchid pink topstitching & ribbon:

In white cotton denim with mint green ribbon:






In a menswear-inspired cream, black & red herringbone cotton, with red ribbon:






And finally, a dressy version in black pleated rayon satin with an electric blue ribbon:





I love that fabric so much!  It's perfect for our outing to the symphony tonight.

{ hat of the week } Heady Concoction

Hello guys & gals!

I've been a neglectful blogger, but in my defense,
I have been deep in design mode and loving every second of it!!  

New hats are springing forth and I'm very excited to share the first of the new styles.  
It's a sweet little asymmetrical split brim cloche perfect for the warmer weather to come.
(it IS coming, right??)

Dubbed the "Heady Concoction", I've made it in two colorways.

First, in a delicious Italian mill-end surplus buttercream cotton seersucker:






I've loved this seersucker since I first found it a couple of years ago, and on my latest rounds through NYC, my jobber offered up an additional stash which I immediately & happily brought back to Chicago with me.  Score!

Another exciting find was this gorgeous
Italian mill-end surplus rayon & acetate blend -
terribly sophisticated in navy & black:






This fabric has the most incredible drape & texture.  It was a complete surprise to me, as I expected it to be a little stiff and scratchy, but now I can't get enough of it!  Sews up & wears like a dream.
